On the northern side, 55 km from Mytilene, rests Petra, one of the most important destinations and an excellent basis to explore the island. The impressive rock with its famous church, devoted to the Virgin Mary, Mother of Christ, is the trademark of the village.
Narrow and full of life picturesque streets, walking paths through the mountains, beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters, small islands and an enchanting sunset in the bay are the nearby sightseeing. The easily accessible roads to the area give the opportunity for restful excursions in a constantly changing landscape.
The inhabitants are into fishing, olive tree cultivation, ouzo production, farming and ofcourse tourism. In the village the visitor can find a fully equipped doctor’s surgery, post office, taxis, petrol stations, car rental agencies, travel agencts, plus many different merchant shops. Of course there are also Greek taverns, candy and sweet shops, pubs, bars or even bouzouki places!
